"This (fake) compilation shows Over Nemesis at its best, with a thicker frame but a warm personality still very much in evidence."

It may seem surprising to see a band of modest stature, and a fortiori with only two albums in its bag, already boasting a compilation. Yet such is the case with Over Nemesis, whose new release, as its title suggests, revisits songs from its predecessors “Wink” (2018) and “De Integro” (2021). While it's regrettable that, after a three-year absence, the French band don't have anything better to offer than this surprising initiative, the fact remains that “Nemesis” has its raison d'être, less a best of in disguise than a recreation.

For the trio from France have not contented themselves with lazily plucking from their earlier opus, but have taken ten tracks from them, re-recorded and sometimes heavily corrected or even transformed. In a word: improved. On the one hand, with a more professional sound recording, such as 'Vaults Of Blindess', which has the desired velvety aggression. On the other hand, by enriching them, as on 'Light Of Hopes', with its Gospel choirs to great effect.

If, thanks to this skilful chiselling, most of the compositions are almost unrecognizable (in the good sense of the word), as illustrated by 'Inside', which is coloured by a majestic orchestral varnish at last, Over Nemesis hasn't gone off the deep end: it remains the sincere, authentic craftsman of the greasy, scowling stoner doom of 'Wink' , on “De Integro”, which “Nemesis” revisits over the course of four tracks, including 'The Last Blues', 'Shines The Light' and 'The Devil's Lair'.

Dressed in a necessarily superb cover by the talented Macchabée Artworks, this album will allow those who don't know him to discover Over Nemesis and reveal him at his best, with a thicker frame but a warm personality still very much present.
