"Despite some good ideas, “Time II” struggles to convince. There's no excuse for waiting so long for a record that's too repetitive and easy."

Patience is a virtue, and this old adage is appropriate for Wintersun. In 2012, we found it a long time to appreciate “Time I” (eight years after the inaugural self-titled album). The wait seemed interminable, and only the 2017 release of “The Forest Seasons” gave us time to wait. The miracle has happened: Jari Mäenpää has decided to release the sequel to the first part of “Time” after a number of twists and turns worthy of reality TV. But there's no room for error in such a long wait, and there's no excuse for it when you know that part of “Time II” was recorded at the same time as Volume I.
With 'The Way of the Fire' and 'Storm', Wintersun sign two pieces that mix epic facets, melodic and symphonic death and aerial ideas. The whole is supported by a good alternation between powerful growl and airy clean vocals. The solos are pleasant, with a good technique that resembles a neo-classical sound. But there's a downside, with some length on each track.
Unfortunately, this shortcoming is apparent right from the opening track 'Fields of Snow'. The melody is beautiful, but goes round in circles. And this observation reaches its climax on 'Silver Leaves'. Although the track has a pleasant folk feel, driven by a melodic, melancholy riff and pure, deep, quality vocals, it drags on regrettably, ending with almost two minutes of nothing at all, with the result that it feels like a relentless filler. Only the shorter 'One with the Shadows' really comes into its own, bringing death metal to the fore with symphonic epic force.
'So much for that' is probably the perfect summary for ‘Time II’. Good passages can't hide length and repetition. Wintersun leave a bitter taste of unfinished business, with a feeling of betrayal towards their audience. - Official website
