"Without revolutionizing the genre, “World On Alert” offers good thrash techno that's as technical as it is melodic."

World On Alert, the solo project of bassist Gino LaPosta, oscillates between technical thrash and death metal bursting with heavy ambience. Influences range from progressive metal greats such as Dream Theater and Rush, through hard-hitting bands like Testament and Metallica, to more technical bands like Coroner, Watchtower and Atheist. The musician has enlisted the services of Alex Walsh and a host of guests to play furious solos or sing on this eponymous debut album.
Helmsman Gino steers his ship with a desire to share his intense, technical music. Despite its homemade sound, “World On Alert” offers captivating moments crowned with acid melodies, and thrash techno fans will find a record shaken by the spasms of hectic drums and bogged down by mounds of percussive riffs. The album stands out for the quality of its compositions and its ability to construct songs that capture attention. The rhythms are intense, the guitars as snarling as they are melodic, and the technique is present without being intrusive. The only drawback is the vocals, which are sometimes a little weak...
A few progressive notes dress up the drawer tracks, worthy of Fates Warning. The drums kick like crazy ('They Came from de Pleiades' or 'Freedom In Disguise'), the guitars draw dark and icy soundscapes. Even if the six-string crushes the tracks, melody remains the essence of this record: on the introduction to 'Insecurities', it's the stripped-down guitar that weaves a shadowy climate dotted with misty shreds. A delicate balance is struck between gentleness and insecurity, slow passages and punchy bursts of energy ('Alone With My Thoughts'). As for the solitary guitar strokes, they are as much ear-piercing shears as sonic honey adorned with fine, coaxing melodies ('They Came from de Pleiades').
Without revolutionizing the genre, “World On Alert” offers excellent techno thrash worthy of Watchtower or Atheist. The five tracks, mastered from start to finish and superbly square, give a foretaste of the band's potential, while inviting you to keep listening. A record to discover, between old school and modernity. - Official website
