Hailing from Fort McMurray, Canada, Supermodel Taxidermy is a young band that launched in 2021. After an EP and a single, the trio have released their debut album, “At What Cost”. The cover, with its bright colors and violence, suggests that the Canadians are in the thrash crossover business.

The opening track, the very short 'Wake Up', sets the tone. It's a slap in the face worthy of Suicidal Tendencies, with a pronounced hardcore edge to the vocals. In the same vein, 'Exorcist For Beer', 'Lipstick', 'The Hanging Tree' and 'Death Dealer' are fine missiles. The rhythm is wild, in a pure crossover spirit tinged with an Anthrax-style mosh. The band's nervousness has a real impact, supported by violent vocals reminiscent of D.R.I.'s hardcore punk spirit.

Supermodel Taxidermy also plays it purely thrash. 'Clinics' is a bomb with a galloping riff. The wickedness is there for all to see, and the mix of Slayer's violence and Municipal Waste's madness is a joy to behold. 'Kevlar' is even more amazing, with a stripped-down, “Reign In Blood”-like tone, massive accelerations and a competitive solo that sticks to the wall. Finally, the cover of “Subliminal” reveals all the energy and strength of Suicidal Tendencies.

“At What Cost” is a nice little slap in the face. With such a formidable album under its belt, Supermodel Taxidermy throws itself into the masses with talent. It has all the weapons needed to take its place in the crossover thrash pack.

OTHER REVIEWS
SWALLOW THE SUN: Shining (2024)
DOOM - A true mirror copy of its two discographic predecessors, “Shining” surprises as much as it captivates, a work that remains obscure but through which Swallow The Sun lets a few rays of pale, fascinating light shine through.
THE SMILE: Cutouts (2024)
OTHERS - A logical complement to “Wall Of Eyes”, “Cutouts” is an introspective journey into the meanders of the experimental.
