"“Everyone Gets Bloody” sees Freak Kitchen rehash a recipe whose effectiveness and catchiness are deprived of the grain of madness that usually makes this band so unique."

Since “Organic” in 2005, Freak Kitchen have clearly eased off the pace of their releases, spacing them out by four or five years. In fact, six years have passed since “Confusion To The Enemy”. Between the courses he gives, his Freak Guitar project and those of other artists in which he participates, IA no longer seems to give priority to his trio. For his part, Christer Örtefors became Christer Hysén, taking his wife's name, and continued to develop his other band, Eaglestrike. As for Björn Fryklund, he's having fun playing early Genesis with his Lone Star Retractor project. Suffice it to say that this tenth opus from the Swedes did not concentrate all the energy of its participants.
However, fans can rest assured that they will easily find the Gothenburg combo's signature on “Everyone Gets Bloody”. Some will even complain that it is too prominent and unsurprising. We'd be hard-pressed to prove them totally wrong, despite our affection for our three madmen. Indeed, the effect of amazement is not there this time, and even the usual grain of madness seems to have been channeled. The convoluted structures and atypical rhythms have almost become predictable, and despite their quality and immediate catchiness, 'Medal' and 'Gravity Works' sound like they've been heard before.
Let's make no mistake, this album is far from being bad, and in fact it's an excellent gateway into the world of our favorite weirdos for those who've only just discovered them. What's more, Mattias and his band are always capable of unleashing a few cluster bombs, such as the distressing 'Psy Co Op', or the angry 'The Expert' and 'Pissing Contest', which remind us that Freak Kitchen know how to denounce the excesses of our world with their offbeat humor. On 'The Grief That Does Not Speak', Christer lays down one of the darkest, heaviest tracks in the band's discography.
Although it goes a long way towards filling the gap left by the trio's long absence, “Everyone Gets Bloody” sees Freak Kitchen re-serving a recipe whose effectiveness and catchiness don't mask a slight taste of reheating. The ingredients are still perfectly measured and effective, but we can't help lamenting the absence of the crazy touches that made previous albums so unstoppable. We'll settle for that this time... - Official website
