After an effective, hard-hitting and refreshing debut EP, Lyon-based Last Addiction release their debut album “Downfall”, featuring modern metalcore nourished by thrash, sprinkled with death, topped with bittersweet melodies and sharp riffs.

Last Addiction combines searing riffs with sweet melodies, leading us into a tormented universe that's both tender and savage. Right from the beautiful cover, the listener is drawn in, then thrown like the characters in freefall, on a slide towards intensity and violence. The strengths of the record are the seductive melodies and the vocals that are as soothing as they are terrifying ('The Pretty Witch', 'Dead Soul Sisters', 'Life Row'). The vocals are excellent, reminiscent at times of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, which is to say that the emotion is on the surface. Some lines are reminiscent of Dream Theater 's progressive metal ('Life Row' sounds like 'Space-Dye Vest'), but the sharp, cutting riffs are fuelled by thrash urgency ('The Last Sunset'). The album offers its share of powerful moments ('The Awakening', 'Until The Night Takes Us', 'Trauma Trigger'), melodies, riffs and vocals intertwining, the songs seemingly linked by a tenuous thread. Rage, fury and tenderness mingle, with only the luminous voice to guide them ('Terror', 'Ghost'). The record appears varied, between stripped-down arpeggios that create a misty ambience ('Until The Night Takes Us'), intense lead-covered riffs close to deathcore('Dead Soul Sisters') and groovy rhythms.

“Downfall” reveals a music full of emotion, thanks to Dylan Fournet's excellent vocals, as gentle as they are powerful. The album, packed with strong, captivating moments, allows the band to express themselves with sincerity and simplicity. “Downfall” is a good, emotionally-driven modern record that will appeal to fans of fury and sensitivity.

BLACK METAL - With “Kintsugi”, Demande à la Poussière confirms an inspiration that is as stormy as it is tense, though not devoid of a form of muted beauty.

PROGRESSIVE METAL - Blind Destiny's second album, “Utopie Temporelle”, is a real success in the progressive rock genre.
