Valfreya is a Canadian band that navigates between folk, black darkness and powerful death, topped with lyricism. They have produced two well-received albums, including "Promised Land", a fine work that had everything to delight fans of melodic folk metal. Despite this positive response, the band parted company with bassist Benoit Arbic, replaced by Anis Balti, while guitarist Érik Grenier took over from Maxime Legault. Maude Théberge's violin adds a touch of dark romanticism to the line-up. The new album "Dawn Of Reckoning" is a meeting between Canada and Nordic divinities, between serenity and fury.

The album features a variety of compositions full of icy ambience and reverie, in which melodies catch the ear with discreet orchestrations ('Equilibrium' or 'Warcry') or pared-down guitars ('The Fate'). He seduces with his grandiose backing vocals, which adorn the songs like a soft summer dew ('The Fall'). The lyrical flights are supported by a magnificent violin that sings serene, bewitching tunes, sometimes bringing a tear to the eye ('The Fate'). It's the vocals that are the real strength of this album. The vocals are superb, from the raging screams of death to the sensual lyricism of lyricism. Corinne Cardinal's spellbinding vocals lure the listener right from the start, never to let go ('The Rise'), as she unfurls a palette of emotions worthy of the greatest symphonic metal moments ('The Fallen Kings'). It's Corinne's voice that leads the way and leaves its mark on the record ...

Valfreya pursues a musical quest adorned with melodies, wrapped in mystery and mysticism. "Dawn Of Reckoning" is a journey to the edge of the world, a cathedral of sound between rage and gentleness, a beautiful album, pleasant to listen to and seductive without bluster. He draws his inspiration from a variety of styles to put his own personal stamp on them. The vocals are beautiful, the orchestrations top-notch, the rhythms intense, the acoustic six-string refreshing and the melodies delicious. The album has enough qualities to seduce the lover of fine, racy metal. An album to discover, nourished by sensitivity, that lights up the ears.

MIKE TRAMP: Mand Af En Tid (2024)
ROCK - "Man Af En Tid" remains the logical follow-up to "For Første Gang", to which Mike Tramp adds just a little more dynamism amidst the pervasive melancholy.
MY DYING BRIDE: A Mortal Binding (2024)
DOOM - "A Mortal Blinding" shows My Dying Bride tirelessly continuing to shape the doom death that is as much in their soul as in their heart.
