With twelve albums to its credit, Hammerfall has little left to prove. They are perfect craftsmen of melodic heavy metal that puts a smile on your face, and they continue to go from strength to strength. Two years after “Hammer Of Down”, they're back with “Avenge The Fallen”, featuring a cover that looks like a direct sequel to its predecessor, with Hector striking a huge hammer blow.

The album's strength comes from a block of tracks designed for the stage. Avenge The Fallen', 'Freedom', 'Hail To The King' and 'Capture The Dream' are excellent moments of melodic heaviness. The choruses are unifying and make you want to raise your fist. They are carried along by the backing vocals and the talent of Joacim Cans, whose tone is as pleasant, powerful, emotional and melodic as ever. The instrumental work is perfect, with riffs and solos tinged with a catchy epic force.

Hammerfall also knows how to use gunpowder. The End Justifies', 'Hero To All', 'Burn It Down' and 'Rise To Evil' are good slaps in the face of fast, catchy heavy metal. The fast riffs and solos are pure 80s spirit. The fresh, straightforward feel is supported by simple refrains that allow Joacim to powerfully push the high notes. Time Immemorial” also stands out, a track with drawers that effectively mixes heavy power with melodic passages full of feeling.

“Avenge The Fallen” is a pleasant vintage in which Hammerfall deploys all its science to find the melody that hits the nail on the head. It confirms its fine shape and continues its journey in the best possible way.
