Historically, Nothing More has always enjoyed releasing albums with varied compositions, blending heavy metal with more Rock elements, and notably with choruses that are almost always melodic. While these changes in direction from one track to the next may have been unsettling at times, they have always guaranteed diverse content, allowing everyone to find at least one or two tracks to their liking. Without suspense, it's not this “Carnal” that's going to change the game.

As usual (with the exception of “Spirit”), Nothing More offers us regular interludes with varied atmospheres (“Carnal,” “Head,” “Heart,” “Sight,” “Sound”), some of which could easily have become tracks in their own right. After the introductory track, Nothing More hits hard with “House On Sand,” a true concentrate of modern metal that is very much in tune with the times and will get many heads banging. Eric Vanlerberghe of I Prevail screams his rage in aggressive verses, counterbalanced, as always with this band, by very accessible choruses. In a similar vein, we find the edgy “If It Doesn't Hurt,” the almost electronicore “Existential Dread,” and “Stuck,” which is naturally more focused on flow since hip hop artist Sinitzer makes an appearance.

That's it for pure aggression; now it's time for more nuanced tracks like the not-quite-industrial “Angel Song” featuring David Draiman from Disturbed, the arena rock “Freefall,” “Blame It On The Drugs” which 30 Seconds to Mars would not have disowned, the downright pop “Down The River,” and finally the mainstream rock “Give It Time” and “Run For Your Life,” the latter standing out with its brutal break in the middle and atmospheric electro ending.

As versatile as ever and without setting any creative limits, Nothing More continues its momentum with this excellently crafted “Carnal,” which will appeal to a wide audience. While the album is eclectic, the common thread is melody, with a strong focus on harmonies and vocal techniques. Nothing More always has something to say and, in a decade, has become a staple of the alternative metal scene.

OTHER REVIEWS
ART NATION: The Ascendance (2025)
MELODIC HARD ROCK - With “The Ascendance,” Art Nation may not have been as successful as with their two previous albums, but the album is still quite respectable.
MIDRONE: Foreverness Revisited (2025)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - In a style where the compositions are more direct and immediate, Midrone will not disappoint Lunear fans, as “Foreverness Revisited” skillfully blends pop and art rock.
