Attic Theory is an alternative rock band from Liverpool with a penchant for lead guitars and heavy, groovy rhythms. With “The Sign of an Active Mind”, their first EP, they gained increasing notoriety and visibility. Now they've released their first album (“What We Fear The Most”), a chiaroscuro montage of serene melody, pervasive groove and explosive rage.
Melodies and power are the pillars of this record. The band's music is pleasant, sincere and hard-hitting. Their qualities include an infectious groove ('Narrow Lines' or 'Tapestry') that makes you want to move, and endearing harmonies that hit the spot every time. The voice is a bittersweet band-aid: its sweetness is a restorative balm, while its snarls quell inner demons with silky saturations ('Sweet Parasite'). The music is relatively simple, with melodic phrases accessible to guitar or vocals. Tenderness invites itself into the heart of a furnace ('Million Little Things'), painting a landscape shrouded in shadows, or binding disparate blocks of lead together with superb, stripped-down guitars ('Tattooed Heart'). Emotion emerges at the very heart of the record: simple, without fuss or showmanship, it is born in the depths of languorous tracks, and expresses itself justly ('Your Light').
“What We Fear The Most” is an energetic, melodic record that tries to turn away from an overly straight path with its many variations. Even if its music sometimes sounds classical, it remains endearing: when emotion takes precedence over revolution... - Official website
