There was a time when it was hard to keep track of Rhapsody and its various versions. Now there's only one entity left, that of Alex Staropoli, Luca Turilli having completely retired since 2023. The Italian band remains relevant. Its line-up is solid, and with “Glory For Salvation” it offered a fine opus, a powerful concentrate of epic heavy melody. The band continues its heroic adventures with “Challenge The Wind”.

'Challenge The Wind', 'Whispers Of Doom', 'The Bloody Pariah' as well as 'Kreel's Magic Staff' and 'A Brave New Hope' form the heart of the record. Rhapsody Of Fire displays a remarkable dynamism and freshness worthy of its glorious beginnings. His speed metal is driven by a symbiosis of keyboard and guitar. Alessandro Sala confirms that he is the master of the game with his powerful, epic and melodic playing, which works wonders on the catchy choruses. As for the instrumental parts, the band reaches new heights with a pleasantly fast melodic side in the great tradition of the genre.

Rhapsody Of Fire is still grandiose and ambitious. With 'Vanquished by Shadows', he offers a major piece in which Staropoli and his band shine for over a quarter of an hour. From an opening that alternates between extreme metal and melodic metal, to a calm, melancholy section worthy of a film soundtrack, to a grandiose epic finale, the track is a perfect summary of the band's strengths. Staropoli liked it so much that he offers a shorter version with the same cinematic force in 'Mastered By The Dark'. Holy Downfall' is another pleasant surprise. Mixing heavy power with a catchy front featuring virtuoso vocals and an epic theatrical idea, it's a fascinating track.

“Challenge The Wind” is a dynamic, epic success. Rhapsody Of Fire is in top shape, confirming his good health. Staropoli was right to hang in there, as he remains the guarantor of a delightful sound that makes you want to set off on an adventure.
