Three years have passed since "Strong", the last released album by Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish). The line-up has been renewed for "Rupture", with Magnus Karlsson on six-string.

Unsurprisingly, 'Heel The Call' opens in a symphonic vein, with choirs, keyboards and walls of raging riffs. The melody is effective and the whole thing works rather well. Johan Husgafvel's growls pepper almost every track on the album, in the manner of trendy bands such as Amaranthe. In the same melodically effective vein, a number of tracks stand out, such as the eponymous 'Rupture', the catchy 'Day Of Wrath' and the highly successful 'Greedy World' and 'Head Up High', which are based on the same types of construction. Even the perennial ballad is a pleasure to listen to, leaving more room for the gentle voice of Anette Olzon, who seems to take great pleasure in interpreting it.

Like its predecessor, "Rupture" doesn't shine in terms of originality, with its predictable compositions and symphonic metal clichés, from the rhythm to the grandiloquent arrangements, but the album as a whole is more consistent, leaving few dispensable tracks along the way. Above all, it boasts a much more balanced production that pays tribute to Anette Olzon's bewitching timbre, which remains undiminished despite the limitations she has always displayed, particularly in the variety of her vocals or her very monochrome tessitura.

"Rupture" is a symphonic metal album that neither revolutionizes the genre nor shines for its originality, but the quality of composition and writing is finally on the rise for the Olzon/Karlsson duo. It may not leave an indelible mark on this year's metal landscape, but it's an easy listen and provides enough melodic and rhythmic pleasure to make you want to listen to it again from time to time.
