The end of Slayer's adventures in 2019 has left fans and band members alike frustrated. Kerry King had to accept the split initiated by Tom Araya and quickly announced the launch of his solo career. We had to be patient to see the release of "From Hell I Rise", which brings together some fine people. It features Slayer mate Paul Bostaph, Kyle Sander, ex-Machine-Head Phil Demmel and Death Angel singer, Mark Osegueda.

The intro of 'Diablo' serves as a calling card, the sound is huge and the mammoth riff impressive. 'Where I Reign', 'Idle Hands', 'Crucifixation', 'Everything I Hate About You', 'Rage' and 'From Hell I Rise' are worthy of the best thrash butchery in the form of a savage charge. The rhythm sticks to the wall. King and Demmel deliver incisive riffs and solos with breathtaking speed. And then there's Osegueda, enormous in strength and intensity, belching with rage.

Kerry King and his mates also rock the heavier stuff with 'Residue', 'Trophies Of The Tyrant' and 'Tension'. The dark tone is effective, as is a throbbing nervous edge. This menacing side is reminiscent of the Slayer of the "Seasons In The Abyss" era. With 'Toxic', King achieves a good compromise between crushing force and speed, with an effective percussive edge. Simple and straightforward, 'Two Fists' shows effective punk energy.

"From Hell I Rise" is a convincing debut solo effort for Kerry King. Perfectly supported, he delivers high-flying thrash with remarkable energy, proving that he still has things to say. Slayer's unexpected return may put the brakes on his solo career, but he shows that he can do without his former band.

Le disque sonne comme du slayer avec des guitares solitaires bien jouées...
