Marco Cusato is a Chilean singer/guitarist best known for his work with gothic rock bands Somberwind and The Fallacy. Far from being out of inspiration, he decided to launch a solo project at the end of 2023, "Untamed Souls", close to the roots of his two other bands, thus preserving the classic gothic style of the 80s and 90s.
Marco Cusato's music blends sharp riffs with hazy atmospheres reminiscent of Paradise Lost's "One Second" era. On "Untamed Souls", he unveils rhythmic, melodic songs ('The Dark Is Full'), while at the same time creating a universe that follows the genre's canons: simple riffs, melodies to match, linear vocals and radio-friendly length.
If the content of the songs seems to have been heard before from the genre's godfathers such as Paradise Lost, Memory Garden or S.U.P... it remains pleasant ('Silent Rites' and its 'One Second'-type melody), thanks in particular to a rumbling bass worthy of Rammstein ('Everlasting Ordeal'). As the tracks progress, Marco adds a touch of personality with beautiful orchestrations, grandiloquent choruses borrowed from opera, stripped-down guitars ('Out') and crystalline pianos ('The Void In Your Soul' evoking 'Space-Dye Vest'). These variations add a soulfulness that would have deserved to have been even more developed, with some tracks rehashing gimmicks heard too often ('Stalker Doll', 'Burn The Witch Down').
"Untamed Souls" is a simple, unpretentious album whose music will appeal to fans of the genre. All Marco Cusato lacks is a little more fury and madness to make a difference and turn the corner. - Official website
