"Gathered around Ronnie Romero, members of Krokus and Gotthard give birth to a Gotus that reminds the Whitesnake of yesteryear."

Gotus, a newcomer to the melodic hard rock scene, hails from Switzerland. It features members or ex-members of Krokus and Gotthard, led by Ronnie Romero. With this eponymous album, the prolific frontman's new promised land has come up with an opus that is likely to live long in the memories of Whitesnake fans, as the eleven tracks offered are so reminiscent of Coverdale's band.
The tracks on this feel-good production are nostalgically 80's, without the feeling of outdated works, and will easily appeal to hard rockers deprived by the Whitesnake's albums of yesteryear. Romero gives it his all and comes closer to mimicking Coverdale's vocals than Jorn Lande ever did in his heyday. It has to be said that the bluesy aspects of the product are a big help, as are the heavy, unifying assaults of Mandy Meyer's six-string. Packed with feeling and efficiency, combining quiet moments and riff avalanches worthy of Black Country Communion, the compositions follow on from one another with no let-up.
Fundamentally classic, but with an edge of class, this debut combines respectful traditionalism with a modernism that erases any sense of predictability or weariness. From thundering heavy rock tracks to seductive mid-tempi, Gotus hits the bull's eye every time. The magnificent 'Children Of The Night' appears as light as a sentimental breeze with its dry guitar arpeggios, and the muscular 'Beware Of The Fire' is very dynamic. The shadow of Deep Purple appears on 'Take Me To The Mountain' and the AOR approach of 'Without Your Love' is seductive before, on the final track, a bouncy, keyboard-laden 'On The Dawn Of Tomorrow' finishes the job.
Ronnie Romero hasn't always made the most convincing choices on his many recent albums, but few would argue that he's made a mistake here. There's no denying that with this first opus, Gotus has embarked on an adventure that should appeal to a large number of hard/metal lovers. - Official website
