Degenerator is the brainchild of two Canadian musicians: Barrett Klesko (ex. The Order Of Chaos, All Else Fails) on vocals, bass and guitar and Jonathan Webster (The Order Of Chaos) on drums. The duo's music is a blend of alternative, heavy, doom and modern metal. "Their debut album, 'The Abyssal Throne', is a searing, bewitching stone thrown into a slimy pool of molten lava.
Here are eleven painful, dark stations, eleven stages inhabited by a thick mist. This varied record is not content to follow a straight road, but wants to take them all in order to build a mixed emotion. It picks up ideas here and there, then synthesises them into an abundance of explosive music. The solo parts are spicy, sometimes colder and more biting when combined with icy synthesizers ('The Day That Never Comes', 'Neurotic'). The power subdues and seduces, the guitar sometimes cloaks itself in harsh power, providing a silky setting for the superb vocals ('Eternalism'). The vocals are the major asset of Degenerator, surfing a palette of vivid, colourful emotions. The Canadians add sometimes classy, hypnotic touches with superb arpeggios that cloak the songs in a sensual haze.
