"Epic, heavy and melodic, "Hell, Fire And Damnation" is a lesson from Saxon at the top of his game."

Saxon wastes no time: 'Carpe Diem' is still fresh, and now comes its successor, 'Hell Fire And Damnation'. In between, the British legend offered up 'More Inspirations', another tribute to his influences. Since then, a major change has taken place: Paul Quinn, loyal guitarist since the early days, has decided to retire. To replace him, Saxon has hired Brian Tatler, the boss of Diamond Head.
This did not change the face of the band. Saxon's heavy metal is as polished as ever. With 'Hell Fire And Damnation', 'There's Something In Roswell' and 'Pirates Of The Airwaves', he signs some new classics. Typical of the Saxon sound, these are solid representatives of classy melodic heavy metal, with effective choruses and carried by Biff's always powerful vocals.
What's striking is the dynamism of the guitarists. You can feel it on tracks like 'Fire And Steel', 'Kubla Khan And The Marchand Of Venice' and 'Super Charger'. Tatler and Scaratt combine perfectly, performing fast, blistering riffs and solos. Close to Motörhead-style hard rock, the tracks have a simple, direct, irresistible edge that makes you want to raise your fist.
'Madame Guillotine' and 'Wichtes Of Salem' are charges that alternate between leaden heaviness and epic moments in the form of a storytelling adventure. In the same spirit, '1066' is the jewel of the album. Saxon offers an epic worthy of 'Crusader' or 'Conquistador'. The chorus is enormous, in the form of a unifying anthem with an airy instrumental part and Biff is irresistible.
"Hell Fire And Damnation" shows Saxon in top shape. The band display the best of their art with a perfect ability to mix intense heavy with unstoppable epic melodies. To see such a fresh and dynamic legend is a pleasure not to be missed. - Official website
