Besomora, which refers to dark spirits and demons, is an Australian melodic death band. The band has released three singles, including a Kiss cover. Now they're releasing their debut album, "Delusional Monster", whose deep darkness befits the band's name. Six tracks between thrash and death with modern tones, six stages to define a universe.
The record, full of energy, is based on old-school death and thrash influences ('Mass Starvation', 'No Remorse'). The music follows the genre's canons with application, rarely straying from them. At first, it's violence and intensity that explode thanks to thick, direct riffs worthy of Carcass. Violence and gentleness marry and unite when the solitary guitar sprinkles a pinch of melody over the songs ('Beyond Atrocity') or makes itself heard via gentle arpeggios, a calm harbinger of a fearsome storm ('Suffocate Me', 'No Remorse'). More than simple rage, it's the dread that surprises when Besomora dresses up the songs with dissonances taken from Morbid Angel. A few technical passages hint at a potential that needs to be exploited and intensified ('Suffocate Me').
"Delusional Monster" invites you to savour the sweetness of melodic guitars and the power of sharp riffs. The EP has its strengths as well as its weaknesses: full of drive, it sometimes seems to struggle to assert itself. Although the songs are pleasant, they could have done with a touch more acidity and spice. Fortunately, a few - all too rare - technical passages crack this rather too clean and smooth mould. "Delusional Monster" is a record that alternates between good stuff and more classic stuff, aimed at fans of Carcass, Arch Enemy and Omnium Gatherum. - Official website
