""Leviathan III is the perfect conclusion to an inspired trilogy. Therion becomes bolder and offers a number of bravura moments."

Therion's "Leviathan" trilogy was a risky gamble. But the first two instalments have worked their magic, bringing the Swedish band back to top shape. The third part was eagerly awaited to complete Christofer Johnsson's work in style.

This latest chapter gets off to a surprising start with 'Ninkigal'. Therion features male death metal vocals. The extreme edge blends well with Lori Lewis's angelic voice. Without offering extreme vocals, 'Baccanale' and 'Nummo' bring the heavy metal aspect to the fore, with a steady rhythm and a direct feel. In a flamenco spirit, 'Duende' is theatrical and makes you want to dance, carried by singers with a seductive sensual tone.

On the other tracks, Therion is more classical, with symphonic metal supported by catchy melodies. When it comes to vocal harmonies, the cursor is set high, and the charm works. The backing vocals are divine, and Lewis and Vikström take us from opera to theater with great class. 'Twilight Of The Gods" introduces a doom side, combining symphonic charm with heavy power.

"Leviathan III" is the perfect flamboyant finale to a high-flying trilogy. Therion is often audacious and shows that it still has a lot to say, much to our delight.
