Bleu Reine is above all a work of the heart. It took three years of hard work for Léa Lotz (at the origin of the project) to come up with "La Saison Fantôme". The beginning of its conception coincides with the deprivation of freedom we've all experienced, that of confinement and solitude, until the rediscovery of a certain freedom, made up of doubts and uncertainties about the future. Without necessarily being autobiographical, this album brings the listener face to face with himself.
To achieve this, talented musician Bleu Reine makes subtle use of all the nuances of rock and alternative music, just as a painter would use a palette to bring relief to his painting. Instead of the brush, the guitar is the instrument at the heart of "La Saison Fantôme". The album opens with a purely rhythmic, driving track with a Romanian touch ('Sighisoara') and alternates between moments of (relative) silence and saturation ('Un Visage Sans Nom' and its magnificent instrumental bridge).
Overall, the album takes its time to fully reveal itself, giving a false impression of monotony. With repeated listening, it seems much richer than at first glance. This work is akin to PJ Harvey's creative freedom. At times, the tracks are based on effective riffs, as in the superb, hypnotic 'Bal des Sabres', and at other times on more sedate, vaporous moments of a more electronic bent ('Comme un Seul Homme', extremely touching and disarming). The highlight of the album is the magnificent 'Belle qui Tiens ma Vie', a sort of experimental modern medieval ballad, with its captivating, ghostly layers of keyboards.
The musical work is subtle and always just right. It often appears minimalist, as if to give greater prominence to the poetic, well-written lyrics ('Pâle Lumière', with the participation of Neige from Alcest), beautifully enhanced by a highly successful in-house production. Lyrics and music have rarely gone so well together, with the Celtic folk tune 'Lorelei' superbly arranged, as is the luminous 'Automne Orange'.
La Saison Fantôme" offers us 13 shades of Lotz, made up of contemplative, never dull, melancholy, chiaroscuro and daring moments. Rarely has an album been so profound and touching. - Official website
