"Judas Priest is still not ready to give up. With "Invincible Shield", they've come up with a new bombshell cut from the best of stalwart heavy metal."

Judas Priest blew the metal world away with "Firepower". To sign an album of such quality, a true synthesis of their art after so many years in the music business, was quite a feat. The record had only one drawback for the band: it needed a follow-up worthy of the name. They had to be patient, but the follow-up is here, and it's called "Invincible Shield". Nothing has changed in the band since "Firepower": despite his illness, Glenn Tipton is still with us and Andy Sneap is back at the helm.
If "Firepower" ped a few heavy bombs, "Invincible Shield" is in the same vein, with more of the same. 'Panic Attack' and 'The Serpent And The King' grab you by the throat. Rob Halford climbs in high notes with ease, the choruses are very simple and the solos are breathtaking in their speed of execution. The heavy metal lesson continues with 'Invincible Shield' and 'Sons Of Thunder', which are just as hard-hitting and dizzying. 'As God Is My Witness' rounds things off in style, with a speed metal edge worthy of the "Painkiller" era.
But "Invincible Shield" is not pure speed metal. It features tracks that are close to the sound of the 80s. 'Devil In Disguise', 'Gates Of Hell' and 'Trial By Fire' are more sedate, with a good foot-tapping rhythm. Rob is also less high-pitched, and the more polished choruses are catchy. The solos are just as virtuosic, with a good sense of melody. Even more melodic is 'Crown Of Horns', again with an excellent chorus and Rob in more melancholy mode, full of feeling. 'Giants In The Sky' stands out from the crowd with its 70's heavy feel and a beautiful aerial break.
"Invicinble Shield" is another success. Judas Priest manages to give a worthy follow-up to "Firepower" with impressive heavy metal force. The British legend is still in top shape and commands respect for his undiminished vitality.
It's worth noting that a deluxe version of the album is available with three well-crafted bonus tracks, including 'The Lodger', a darker, more epic track not far removed from the spirit of the "Nostradamus" album. - Official website
