"With "Endless Skies", Alconaut transforms the trial, digging into a stoner that is both colorful and rocky."

Perhaps it's due to their geographical origins - Corsica - but Alconaut don't really sound like any of the other bands they come close to. The trio likes to show its fangs, a bit like Motörhead or its stoner version High On Fire, but a certain gentleness doesn't go amiss. They line up big, hard-hitting riffs, but can also soar high into psychedelic or even quasi-progressive paradises. This ambivalence is perfectly summed up by the album covers, where the band's logo, almost modelled on that of Sleep, contrasts with the otherwise superb, dreamy illustrations.
"Sand Turns To Tide", the Corsican's first album, wasn't perfect, but it was brimming with obvious potential, just waiting to be pressed into an even more masterful and enjoyable record. This is (well) done with "Endless Skies". With more than three years separating them, Alconaut has taken its time to build on the foundation they have laid. And it was right to do so, given the impressive progress made since 2019. While retaining that rough, authentic patina, the sound has become warmer, more '70s-influenced stoner that finds its most vibrant expression in the 'Ascending' triptych. Stratospheric guitars, fleshy bass, juicy keyboards and undulating harmonica irrigate this misty trip. More orgasmic, a track like 'Lost' succeeds in syncretizing the two faces of the band. The vocals are gruff, exhaling a tenacious whiff of smoke, the rhythm is thick, but the guitar solo that pierces it and its bluesy overtones give it an adventurous dimension.
Compared to its promising predecessor, "Endless Skies" appears more polished, exploring new paths. In doing so, Alconaut digs deeper into the direction we'd like to see it take, leather still tanned but colored with more psychedelic if not progressive touches. Not only do the Corsicans transform the trial, they also open up an even richer and more exciting horizon. - Official website
