"Peter Morgan's "Altvs" is a good EP, melodic and violent, and begs to be followed up..."

The name may not ring a bell, but behind Peter Morgan lies the Nightshade screamer. He has already sung on a single mixing extreme influences and rap in collaboration with Hyto The Hero ('Obnoxious'). Now he's back with "Altvs", a deathcore record with a fairly technical bent, dark melodies and crushing riffs. It's a way of discovering another side of the artist.
The essential element of the record is its power: the guitars are leaden, the vocals ultra-aggressive, the bass intense and the square drums bring a touch of technique essential to differentiate the record. The power of the album hits you with full force from the opening seconds of 'Kairos' and on 'Doomed', which is so heavy it takes your breath away. The heaviness crushes the listener under intense riffs coloured by suffocating atmospheres worthy of horror films, such as 'No Humanity', which multiplies the dark ambiences.
Fortunately, at the heart of this night, a few melodic lines spread a certain gentleness and bring a diaphanous clarity. These are carried by bright, loquacious, almost shredded guitar strings. This element lifts the record above the rest, and brings it within touching distance of the progressive version of the genre (The Faceless, Fallujah). Even though the tracks are short and condensed, the intensity is always there, with many variations in the structure of the rhythms as well as in the moods and harmonies of the songs.
With a healthy dose of violence underpinned by penetrating vocals and rather personal lyrics, this album strikes a balance between technique, power and melody. Admittedly, the music is marked by the imprint of the original mould, but there's a refreshing wind of change blowing through the tracks. "Altvs" is a good EP of fairly typical deathcore music, infused with a personal touch and bluffing energy. The EP has enough qualities for fans of the genre to get behind it and for the band to find its audience. - Official website
