"Far too formatted, Metalite's "Expedition One" struggles to convince with its highly predictable melodic electro metal."

Three years have passed since the release of "A Virtual World", the latest offering from Metalite, the Swedish band trying to carve out a place for themselves between Amaranthe and Beast In Black. "Expedition One", a concept album with sixteen tracks (70 minutes on the clock, after all), is being offered to us today. This might lead the wary listener to question the Scandinavians' ability to maintain the quality of their compositions over time. It's true that the world of modern female-fronted melodic metal is not used to conceptual works or long opuses.
To conceive of what Metalite have to offer, all you have to do is pile on power metal-melodic riffs, omnipresent drums and electronic effects bordering on techno. The whole thing is spiced up with anthemic pop melodies sung by an energetic female singer with a charming manner. "Expedition One' is no exception. Listening to this new production, you quickly realise that the band have chosen to stick to their guns. And let's face it, getting through the whole thing in one go is a real challenge.
Originality is nowhere to be found. Listening to this set of predictable melodies that enter through one ear and immediately leave through the other, you do manage to nod your head from time to time, but it's only for a passage, hardly ever for an entire track. As a result, once the opus is finished, very few tracks stick in the memory. The only ones that do are 'Free' and 'Paradise', which offer addictive themes, and the instrumental 'Utopia', a peaceful passage in the middle of the storm.
Too generously embellished with electronics, too linear and monolithic, invaded by double pedals that end up irritating, 'Expedition One' should only convince Metalite die-hard fans, who might even be beginning to tire of this overly formatted music. - Official website
