In 2020, Corey Taylor put Stonesour on hold to launch a solo career under his own name, in search of artistic freedom. "CMFT" in 2020, a veritable patchwork of its interpreter's tastes, had surprised with its great variety. While retaining his role in Slipknot, Corey Taylor is back with "CMF2".
The heart of the album contains a series of tracks tinged with American rock. The short opener 'The Box' sets the tone with a light acoustic riff and vocals reminiscent of Alice In Chains. On the more melancholy tracks, Corey Taylor's veiled vocals are moving, the singer baring his soul on unstoppable choruses and melodies.
On 'Talk Sick' and 'We Are The Rest', he gets down to some fresh, melodic punk, tinged with a pleasant, edgy rock'n'roll spirit and featuring some effective, direct solos. Corey Taylor steps up the tone even further with some hard rock, with a dose of screamed vocals to complement the clean vocals, a cross between Stonesour and Slipknot, or a dash of metal on the hard-hitting 'All I Want Is Hate'. Finally, the pleasant 'Breath Of Fresh Smoke' flirts with the blues.
"CMF2 is just like Corey Taylor. It shows many faces, but is still homogeneous. The singer confirms that he sets no limits for himself and shows enormous talent as a composer. - Official website
