Fall Out Boy returns with their first album in five years. No revival, no old stuff, no album marked by the Covid pandemic or collections of mini-songs like we've seen and heard from some stadium bands in a hurry to find an excuse to go on tour again. Here it's rather the opposite, a series of ultra efficient tracks without any dead time that make you want to tap your feet.

Since Fall Out Boy has been on the circuit for so long, and after such a long break, it's quite surprising to have such a series of catchy songs that sound current. There are few mid tempo tracks either, we stay with the tried and tested pop punk formula. Compared to its predecessor "Mania", "So Much (for) Stardust" has fewer adventures in new styles and is a return to the roots, at least at the beginning of the album.

After a strong start with 'Love From the Other Side', a welcome to a long-awaited album, 'Heartbreak Feels so Good' is already a musical highlight, in an upbeat style but with an interesting contrast to the positive but serious lyrics. The third track 'Hold Me Like a Grudge' goes downhill and clearly veers towards the pop side, with a Bruno Mars-like start and the guitars in the background until the chorus. The album runs at a brisk pace over its 13 tracks in 44 minutes and ends superbly with the eponymous track.

When the release of "So Much (for) Stardust" was announced, guitarist Joe Trohman said that he was leaving Fall Out Boy to treat his mental health. This leaves Pete Wentz, bassist and lyricist, and Patrick Strump, singer/guitarist, to defend this album on stage. It shouldn't be difficult, except perhaps to choose which songs to leave out, as they are almost all good.

MIKE TRAMP: For Første Gang (2022)
ROCK - By having the audacity to interpret his songs in Danish, Mike Tramp takes an artistic risk but proves his talent with this curious and endearing "For Første Gang", despite its abuse of sweetness.
SEVENTH CRYSTAL: Wonderland (2023)
MELODIC HARD ROCK - With "Wonderland", 7th Crystal offers a worthy successor to "Delirium". Diversified and melodious, it represents the melodic hard rock of the 21st century.
