"Combining pleasure with experience, "Sundowners" puts The Answer back on track. An unexpected and successful comeback."

Despite the excellent performance of "Solas" (2016), The Answer felt the need to take a step back. Did they imagine that this absence would last almost seven years? During all these years, the band has been discreet and only its emblematic singer has given us some news by releasing a solo album in 2020 ("White Feather"). The surprise of finding the Irish band is therefore all the greater. As this kind of comeback sometimes ends in bitter failure, the fear of a disappointing resurrection was nevertheless allowed. Would the inspiration be there?

There's no need to beat about the bush, 'Sundowners' is a tasty opus that will immediately reassure the most sceptical, sweeping away any doubts and this period of silence like a bundle of straw. With its harmonica and its Led Zeppelin-like crawling tempo, this fiery start gives the impression that the Irish had left us only yesterday. However, this opus doesn't quite pick up where "Solas" left off, actually going back to the time of the inaugural "Rise" (2006), as if Cormac Neeson's band was reviving the energetic frenzy of their debut.

This way of looking back at the past could have led to a result that is at best nostalgic, at worst pandering. But this is not the case. Although faithful to this rock nourished with the generous grains of the 70's and flavoured with bucolic folk touches, The Answer makes a timeless music, helped by a dazzling shape as much in the interpretation, both impeccable and quiet, as in the writing. "Sundonwers" features eleven tracks that are little jewels of arrangements and melodies.

It's impossible to mention them all, but 'Always Alright', a magnificent ballad rich in keyboards and silky choirs, the (still) zeppelin-like 'California Rust', the cosy and bluesy 'Oh Cherry' or 'Cold Heart', its lascivious curves and its vicious guitar soaked in Bayous, are particularly worth mentioning. All these tracks feed an unstoppable menu prepared by musicians who have the peaceful assurance of old hands perfectly broken in to the exercise with the addition of that extra soul which makes all the difference.

Combining pleasure and experience, "Sundowners" puts The Answer back on track, whose long absence has allowed them to recharge their batteries and come back in great shape. As the undisputed master of this warm seventies blues-rock, he signs a return as unexpected as successful.

DAMANEK: Making Shore (2023)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - The vocals may be controversial, but Damanek's "Making Shore" is still a very good progressive album!
KHYMERA: Hold Your Ground (2023)
A.O.R. - Dennis Ward comes back to us with Khymera and this "Firestarter" which is too conventional and lacking in catchiness.
