Last year, Ronnie Romero released an album of covers of classic rock/hard rock songs that meant "something special" to him. "Raised On Heavy Radio", the second in a trilogy that ended with a solo work, is also a collection of covers performed, with one exception, during the 80s and 90s by hard/heavy rock and metal stars: Deep Purple, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Masterplan or Yngwie Malmsteen...

Surrounded by classy musicians, Ronnie Romero with the golden voice is here in his comfort zone, his natural ease is thus reinforced. His talent allows him to easily appropriate the chosen compositions, which hardly upset the old ones but, boosted by a production giving them a second youth, remind us how much they had marked us at the time. Romero dominates the proceedings in his challenges with the original performers. His voice, by turns more powerful, more melodious or more captivating, impresses.

However, one question inevitably comes to mind when this release is announced: was it really necessary to make this record? What does he bring to these classics by covering them? Especially since it's not a question of revisiting them, but only of reinterpreting them. Everyone will have their own opinion on the matter. The fact remains that "Raised On Heavy Radio" appears to be a fine work, but we can't wait for Ronnie Romero to offer us some tracks of his own...
