HOOKS AND BONES: Time Of Reckoning (HARDCORE): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

By looking at the cover of the EP "Time Of Reckoning", we can immediately see that it is not about laid-back music... Because Hooks And Bones offers hardcore that bleeds. Eight tracks for thirteen minutes on the clock, so much to say that we are close to speeding !

The band is not at its first trial and has already proposed several tracks before the release of this new EP. Hooks and Bones is committed to opening the doors of their hardcore with thrash elements. Their approach takes advantage of both the energy that comes from the founding style but also the heaviness of metal by incorporating some melodic elements. The guitars, of course, do their best with powerful riffs and some short but well felt solos ('Raise Your Voice'). The rhythmic brings its explosive dynamics.

These condensed tracks leave a bit of bitterness because their duration rarely exceeds 2 minutes. If we reproach some bands for doing too much, we are close to the opposite here and it's a pity because some instrumental parts would have benefited from being a little more developed. But the group took the decision to go to the essential to translate a certain urgency, an anger and a bitter report on the current society ('Social Rampage'). The bases are laid to bring more density for the next releases. Especially since Hooks and Bones knows how to compose anthems of a rare power ('Blue Devils') which will be multiplied tenfold in live.

"Time of Reckoning" is therefore a cathartic EP of a formidable efficiency but also frustrating by its duration. It remains the photography of its time where everything goes fast.
