"In spite of some weaknesses of youth, "Royal Flush" already imposes the affirmed identity of Deep Town Diva within an Italian rock in full ebullition."

Formed in 2018 in Modena (Italy), Deep Town Diva offers us their first discographic release this year in the form of a five track EP entitled "Royal Flush". If this first offering seems to possess enough qualities for us to take the time to delve into it, it is still surprising to see that only five compositions have been released in the four years of the band's existence. At this rate, we'll probably have to be patient before we can hope for a complete opus.
Five tracks then, including two ballads which seems to be a lot, even if the quality is there. 'Miles and Bullets' is a good one with its southern atmosphere reinforced by a harmonica. As for 'Wind Back', it closes the whole on a dark and melancholic mid-tempo. However, it would have been preferable to favour the muscular side of an already well marked identity. The influences oscillate between the glam of the 80's and an indie rock that the compatriots of Maneskin have brought back to light. The shadow of the winners of the Eurovision 2021 hovers on the single 'Jagger Of Jagger' with a punkish approach and a catchy chorus.
But it's in the two other tracks of this EP that we should look for the best reasons to hope in the future of the Italian quartet. The hypnotic and very classic-rock 70's swing of 'Rising Star' wraps the listener in illicit and bewitching smokes. As for 'Snake Bite', its greasy and nasty heavy would have deserved a more powerful production to give it the efficiency it deserves. To note also the talent of the guitarist Marco Rustici who strings together the gleaming soli and the catchy riffs. This compensates for a vocals that is still too mannered and lacks a little bit of the necessary assurance to be totally credible.
Some slight weaknesses which are not prohibitive and which should easily be erased with a little more experience as well as a production worthy of compositions with a well asserted trademark. We are waiting for a long work to confirm the hopes that this "Royal Flush" has created, and to impose Deep Town Diva in the heart of an Italian rock landscape in full boiling.
