"With this short EP named "Rumination", Wheel develops (too) quickly three ambiences representative of his immense talent, but frustrates us with only 12 minutes of music."

Like many other bands in the world, the Finns of Wheel took advantage of the various confinements of the last 24 months to write. Eighteen months after "Resident Human", they deliver us today the fruit of this work with a three tracks EP entitled "Rumination".
After two very dense albums made of long and punchy tracks, the exercise can be surprising. However, in spite of the compact format of the three tracks (all around four minutes), James Lascelles and his band evolve in very familiar ground. Indeed, through the three tracks presented, they propose a panel of musical atmospheres very representative of their music.
'Blood Drinker' which opens the EP throws its rumbling bass and its djent riffs with jerky and dissonant sounds like a Jinjer. 'Imprevious' would have found its natural place on 'Moving Backwards' in a vein close to Tool, less atmospheric and with this touch of aggressiveness and roughness in the vocals which becomes a real signature of Wheel throughout the albums. As for 'Synchronise', the track explores an atmospheric side that the band is not used to develop. The vocals are more peaceful and the acoustic orchestration and the violins build a melancholic atmosphere of a touching beauty as the Swedes of Soen can do.
With "Rumination", Wheel's fans will appreciate the band's universe but will remain frustrated by a short duration of 12 minutes close to some tracks of the previous albums. The EP is nevertheless a real pleasure to listen to, as it offers three varied and representative tracks of the talent of one of the most promising alternative metal bands of these last years. It is a nice calling card of the Finns, but did they really need it? - Official website
