With "Death By Rock And Roll", The Pretty Reckless met a very big success. Its successor was thus particularly awaited. Unfortunately, "Other Words" is not the fifth album of the Americans but, as its title suggests, a hybrid assembly composed of acoustic recreations of songs from the previous record, a new song and a handful of covers. The program is not very exciting and smells, at best, like a gift for the most devoted fans who are satisfied with the smallest crumbs, at worst, like a commercial object which tries to capitalize on the craze - otherwise deserved - around the New Yorkers.

Known for the requirement brought to each of their creations, the latter couldn't be satisfied with an album cobbled together in a hurry and "Other Words" is faithful to their usual quality standards. And anyway, good compositions remain good, even if they are stripped of an electric covering. As a proof, the re-reading of '25', a ballad that keeps all its power in this piano / voice framework of a beautiful purity. Better, Taylor Momsen finds in this fragile envelope the ideal case for his deep and expressive vocal lines.

Other extracts of the fourth album, 'Death By Rock And Roll' and its vicious slide, 'Harley Darling', 'Only Love Can Save Me Now' or 'Got So High' are adorned in this acoustic facelift of tasty country colors. The last of them appears a second time in a "remix" version that was not really necessary. It is the only useless track of a quiet and stripped menu of which we will also retain the unpublished 'Loud Love' pleasant and theater of a performance of the singer.

As for the covers, they allow the Americans to invite prestigious musicians (David Bowie's 'Quicksand' with his former pianist Mike Garson) and to pay tribute to their friend Chris Cornell, whose 'Halfway There' by Soundgarden (with the help of his former drummer Matt Cameron) and 'The Keeper' from his solo career, where the guitar of Alain Johannes, with whom Cornell had collaborated, comes to the fore.

Hybrid product, "Other Words" is not essential but confirms the good taste and the talent of The Pretty Reckless who, even in semi-acoustic mode, manages to stand out.
