Lorna Shore is one of the trendy symphonic deathcore band, mixing suffocating violence, melodies and grandiloquent orchestrations. The Americans have produced three albums that have received a mixed reception. Even as the band gained recognition, singer Casey Jay McCreery left his microphone to Will Ramos, bassist Andrew O'Connor took up his guitar alongside Adam De Micco, and Mike Yager now plays bass. Thus strengthened, Lorna Shore offers "Pain Remains", hoping to surpass its predecessor "Immortal".

The album contrasts a classic deathcore vision with symphonic touches and ambitious passages with soft melodies. The band cultivates this opposition like a red thread that makes the salt of the album: moving melody and frightening voice for 'Soulless Existence', misty layers against piggrowls and energetic riffs on 'Welcome Back O Sleeping Dreamer'. 'Into The Earth' begins with orchestral notes spiced with dissonance, then adds up the variations of style and tempo (choirs, accelerations and slowing down steamroller) and is good track that shows that even if Lorna Shore doesn't go off the beaten track, he masters his art to perfection, an impression confirmed by the nice finale constituted by the triptych 'Pain Remains', the exact definition of what symphonic deathcore should be.

Piggrowls, simple melodies, epic harmonies, power, everything seems to come together to make this album an exceptional record. However, this one doesn't bring anything more than the previous one and is too long and without surprise. It lacks bite even if it is efficient and sprinkled with melodies. Without revolutionising the genre, Lorna Shore offers a decent album that will please fans for whom originality is not the most important element.
