The French band Clayton Ravine climbs into their Delorean for a return to the past of music. These musicians met during musical springboards and twenty years later, they decide to get together to play a rock typed 70s and mixed with current sounds. "EP 1" is composed of four songs, a gateway to the universe of a band without any headaches or oversized ego.
Among the four songs, two stand out. First of all, 'On My Own Again', a good track which draws its inspiration from an energetic rock mixed with funk, with a swaying and sensual rhythm, simple and effective. Already the assets as well as the weakness of the band are visible, its strength being its taste for the soft melodies and its weakness to resemble some references of the rock of the 70s. Then 'Revolution' is a sweet song introduced by an acoustic guitar reminding Genesis ("Trespass") or Bruce Springsteen (period "The Ghost Of Tom Joad"). The sweetness weaves a silky web, then the tone hardens when a hallucinatory guitar invades the track.
The other two tracks, while quality, are more classic. The riff of 'Won't Listen Again' is reminiscent of rock of 'Born To Be Wild' with a strong bass, a sharp guitar in the manner of the first U2 and harmonized voices of the most beautiful effect. Finally 'The Accident', although fluid and energetic, remains rather classic, a kind of cross between Suede, Supergrass or Sterephonics. In short, a track with melodious vocals that walks between rock and pop.
"EP 1" is a quality record, focused on melody, groove and sincerity. If the mimicry with some of their models is proven, the songs of Clayton Ravine remain always effective. A record on which the musicians have fun and it is heard.
