Dominic Harrison, known as Yungblud, did not mellow out. Always as extravagant and overexcited, you just have to watch his last videos to be convinced. Two years after a "Weird!" which navigated between alternative pop and FM rock, containing some exciting hits ('Mars' or 'Cotton Candy'), he is back with his new album entitled "Yungblud". Liking to cultivate the difference, it is by a rather sober cover on which he poses, red tinted locks and always so androgynous look, that Yungblud opens us once again the doors of his artistic universe as visual as musical.

Creative, Yungblud is undeniably. Inspired too... but a little too much by the others. The opening track 'The Funeral' is full of energy, very catchy, it contains a huge chorus with "oh oh oh" that the fans will be able to shout in concert, and we find in guest star Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne in the official clip... except that its verses are modelled on those of 'Dancing With Myself' of Billy Idol. The next track, 'Tissues', also made to be a radio hit, is based on the rhythm of 'Close to Me' by the Cure. Fortunately, the rest of the track is totally different but such strong similarities are disturbing.

Two first tracks, two hits. Yungblud seems to have kept a certain talent to propose light pop songs which make move. And it is not finished since 'Memories' comes with an effective chorus featuring Willow, who had made a feat with Machine Gun Kelly, who had made a feat with Yungblud... the loop is closed (too great)!

Then follows a series of tracks that have nothing to do with rock and not much with pop either. Of course, we can hear some guitars, a (obviously) programmed drum, but the whole is too close to a Justin Bieber (in a little more rhythmic it is true) to consider that Yungblud still makes rock. It is finally necessary to wait for the strange last track, 'The Emperor', to leave this excessively formatted style.

The years pass but time seems to slip on Yungblud who adapts his music - and his very teenage lyrics - to the fashion of the moment. From the pop of 'Weird!', there is nothing left. "Yungblud" is not necessarily a bad album, it's just that it doesn't really belong on a site like Music Waves. Despite this casting error, you may find some guilty pleasure on the first two tracks with communicative energy.
