We had left Scarlean by a back to back between the child and Ghost, the emblematic character of the group since its debut ("Soulmates" 2019). For this new album "Silence", the character leaves place to the young girl who grew up drowning dressed in a wedding dress. Exit Ghost? Well no, because this one remains very present in the musical abysses of the group, insidiously.
Scarlean weaves, at a steady pace, its web with resolutely rock and metal threads, tinged with an alternative and modern energy that definitively installs the band among the great hopes of the French scene. If the previous album had shown the progress of the group, this one confirms them even amplifies them. Already the sound is fuller and heavier and you can feel it from the opening track 'The Hand On Your Skin', dark in its verses that hit hard and that an efficient chorus comes to clear up. But Scarlean is not only that because the combo develops a small alternative side which provokes other emotions than the simple rage and anger. Thus testifies 'A Wolf Inside' which at the melodic level raises the level of a notch, helped by the contribution of well felt electro touches.
Where the band is strong is in the musical illustration of the concept it develops. Some passages of 'Wake Up Right Now' give you the shivers until the final liberating guitar solo. There is an almost progressive approach underlying Scarlean's work, even in the vocal lines, sometimes screamed or calmer ('No Remedy') and whose paroxysm is reached in 'The One Who See', which reminds a bit Queensrÿche and its "Operation Mindcrime" with its martial side. The chorus is in any case unstoppable!
With "Silence", Scarlean strikes again a great blow. The album is catchy and varied while succeeding in the tour de force to establish a very beautiful coherence in connection with the concept. It shows a beautiful cohesion between the musicians who put their technique at the service of the music. The album does not fail to provoke emotions until moving at certain moments by the despair and the melancholy which it conveys. - Official website
