Fallujah is a half mad, half visionary alchemist, marrying modern metal, death and ultra-technical progressive. The two previous albums ("Dreamless" and "Undying Light") were widely applauded by Music Waves with their captivating melodies cleverly scattered and personal artistic vision. On the line up side, Nico Santora (guitar) left his place, "Rob Morey" (bass) was replaced by Evan Brewer (ex. The Faceless) and Kyle Schaefer took over from Antonio Palermo (vocals). Nevertheless, everything is gathered for a return to grace, from the sublime cover signed by Peter Mohrbacher who had designed the visual of "Dreamless", to the recording entrusted to Mark Lewis who had also worked on the last two albums, or the numerous guest musicians.

Fallujah holds a rhythmic iron hand in a melodic velvet glove. 'The Bitter Taste Of Clarity' introduces the album with a note of sweetness, then quickly sets the furnace ablaze: fast riff, rumbling voice with multiple registers, intense drums between tensions and releases. Power and energy, softness and melancholy dress this first track and the whole album. Thus 'Embrace Oblivion' oscillates between power and groovy rhythms of a crazy complexity on which navigates the melodic and elegant solo guitar worthy of Scar Symmetry. Then the intensity of 'Celestial Resonance' is broken by bewitching arpeggios. Balancing between aerial passages and dark power, 'Artifacts' dispenses the soft light of shimmering melodies. Finally 'Into The Eventide' imposes a rhythmic evidence adorned with melodies reminiscent of Theory In Practise where the ethereal female vocals are a remedy to the sonic aggression. Fallujah spreads its instrumental science and goes to the essential: the raw energy and the sincere and lasting emotion.

Even if "Empyrian" slightly changes the musical direction of the band (more technical or more melodic), the album is beautiful, dressed with amazing harmonies and bewitching passages that soothe its fury. This record is a great success that will delight progressive metal fans, a sublime album that explores a different universe where everything is possible.
