"Relatively disappointing, "Déjà-Vu: Part One" is a record that blurs the lines and whose songs seem to be made for a band other than Novelists."

Novelists is THE modern metal band that counts. Between progressive and metalcore, the frenchies walk tortuous, dark and violent paths. "C'est la vie" was a surprise for Music Waves and "Noir" was a diamond with compositions between darkness and light. For this new record, Matt Gelsomino (vocals) is replaced by Tobias Rische and Pierre Danel (Kadinja) holds the second guitar. "Déjà-Vu" promises to be a unique and ambitious record where softness, murderous riffs, virtuoso guitars, icy atmospheres and bittersweet vocals intertwine.

Even with their technical background, the band chose efficiency. 'The Answer' is simple, straightforward and unadorned, its guitar with amazing harmonies is of an excellent level. 'Terrorist' offers intense riffs whose melodies capture the attention, fluid but agreed. The beautiful guitar of 'Smoke Signals' is catchy, its vocals soft and warm, but the track seems sometimes relatively common or classic while 'Lost Cause', worthy of Linkin Park or Parkway Drive, has a relatively catchy and calibrated chorus.

The softness and tenderness permeate the work. 'Mae' which surfs on artificial layers and a synthetic rhythm allows the group to explore horizons almost drum'n bass. Then 'Colas' reveals a sweetness and a purified atmosphere that Pink Floyd could not deny ('Take It Back', 'Coming Back To Life'). Finally 'Made By Design' returns to the progressive, with variations that are built around strong melodies and heady choruses.

It is painful to give Novelists an average grade, as their previous records were so brilliant. But this record, adorned with beautiful melodies and well played, offers unfortunately a too uniform production and too consensual tracks. Where is the progressive ? Where is the melancholy? Where is the heart of Novelists? "Déjà-Vu: Part One" is a huge disappointment as fans will be lost by songs that blur the style and seem made by another band.

THE BIG DEAL: The First Bite (2022)
MELODIC HARD ROCK - With this "First Bite", The Big Deal offers a melodic hard rock too formatted. And it is not the highlighting of the charms of the two singers that will make this album more interesting.
THE HELLACOPTERS: Eyes Of Oblivion (2022)
ROCK - Between melodic hard rock and garage rock, the Hellacopters offer a fresh and energetic "Eyes Of Oblivion".
