Fourth release of
Michael Palace
, "One 4 The Road" takes up the business where its predecessor had left it. "Rock And Roll Radio" had succeeded in making people accept its very old school approach thanks to an unstoppable freshness and efficiency. The recipe is thus taken again for this new delivery of eleven titles which seem to arrive directly from the 80's.
The choruses are catchy and the soli of the master of the place are systematically brilliant. The single 'Westbound', with its unstoppable riff, is the best example and would have undoubtedly offered a nice competition to
Survivor
or
Journey
during their greatness. The shadow of Jim Peterik's combo also hovers on 'Facing The Music', combining melody and efficiency, or on 'World Gone Mad' with its hyper speedy solo.
Contrary to many of his compatriots whose Scandinavian identity is blinding,
Palace
plunges deeply its roots on the other side of the Atlantic and seems more illuminated by the Californian sun than by the midnight one. The ballad 'The Driver' has a country feel to it, and its interpretation is reminiscent of some
Nickelback
tracks. More dark and energetic, the catchy 'Cancel The Flight' also reaffirms these US influences with talent and efficiency. It is necessary to wait for the mid-tempo 'Loneliest Night' to find a more Swedish touch with numerous keyboards creating a more atmospheric and dark atmosphere at the same time.
"One 4 The Road" will bring surely to the fans of the genre a nice dose of melodic energy both spontaneous and refreshing. The originality is not required and it would be easy to say that this opus comes 40 years too late. It is nevertheless a delicious moment which will delight all those who assume a more or less immoderate love for an AOR with bewitching and catchy melodies coming from another time.

THUNDERMOTHER:
Black And Gold (2022)
HARD ROCK
- Thundermother will probably never reach the top floor but with his simple and fresh Hard Rock, "Black And Gold" is enough to make us happy
FALLUJAH:
Empyrean (2022)
DEATH METAL
- "Empyrian" by Fallujah, powerful and dressed with haunting passages that soothe its heaviness, is a great record that will delight progressive metal fans.
