"With his new eponymous album, Bukowski signs a great alternative Rock record, full of rich and nervous tracks."

After a thunderous start, Bukowski's popularity has ped. The artistic level has nothing to do with it, the band always releases solid albums, but the line-up changes and a less effective promotion have broken the momentum. The recourse to participative financing for the last album did not completely reverse the trend. The group could have let its guard down by suffering a big blow as life has in store: in October 2021, Matthieu Dottel had the pain of losing his brother Julien, bassist of the formation. But rather than go under, Matthieu and his bandmates continued to work on the sixth album and recruited Max Müller on bass.

The album, which simply takes the name of the band, starts with 'From Above', a groovy greasy stoner with a catchy melody and a warm chorus full of feeling. After a classic start, Bukowski shows a catchy American rock spirit with a balance between power and melody.

'NCFYC', 'My Claws', 'Stolen' and 'Vertical' form a seductive quartet. The veiled vocals and melodies evoke Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam or Nickelback.  This is mixed with a southern feeling full of melancholy. 'Breathin' Underwater', epic and grandiloquent, alternates atmospheres with anger in the vocals but also hope. Real therapy, the title takes to the guts and evokes Muse and Queen. The rest of the album is divided between sludge, alternative stoner, soaring moments and neo metal tinged with grunge.

With his eponymous album, Bukowski signs a strong and moving record. It emanates a melancholy that takes to the guts. The band shows itself naked and sincere, we can only wish it a success equal to the artistic quality it offers.
