The Frenchmen of Enneade, a sort of cross between Pain Of Salvation, Genesis and Marillion propelled in the musical world of the end of the nineties, were then the hope of the progressive metal of our country. The band consolidated this position with the superb "Tears In Morning Dew". They then took their time to release this "Withered Flowers and Cinnamon".
From the first seconds of 'A Foul Taste Of Freddom', a bittersweet atmosphere settles in. On a base of progressive rock tinged with metal, Enneade builds lush scores iridescent of fine acoustic notes. On this track, it is also the poetic orientation of the lyrics that enhances the superb melodies. Thereafter, even if 'Illumination' intensifies the raw aspects with its instrumental developments, it is magnified by breathtaking harmonies. This track is perhaps one of the most beautiful progressive titles heard since 'People Passing By' or 'The Great Escape' of Marillion...
Autumn' is the logical continuation of 'A Foul Taste Of Freedom' and 'Illumination'. After two strange pieces ('Tinkling Forks' and 'Grand Buffet'), this last stage starts a trip towards a majestic progressive where the saxophone, the stripped guitars, the solitary six-strings propel the disc in another dimension.
"Tears In Morning Dew" had propelled Enneade on the front of the stage. Ten years later, "Withered Flowers and Cinnamon" confirms this position. Thanks to the sublime beauty of its melodies, its luminous arrangements and its fluidity, "Withered Flowers and Cinnamon" is a superb and outstanding record. - Official website
