Ko Ko Mo, a duo formed by Warren (guitar and vocals) and Kevin (drums), has been scouring the French stages since their first EP "Stole My Soul" in 2014. The essence of the band lies in a rock dressed in its simplest expression by returning to the essentials and efficiency, which other bands, locking themselves in a search for modernity, sometimes tend to have forgotten.
Indeed, in "Need Some Mo", the duo consciously wanted to go back to the basics of this counter-culture, long put to sleep and weaned of live shows during the pandemic. The condensed titles underline the urgency and the expression of the festive frustration undergone during two years, between lockdown and semi-freedom. Ko Ko Mo has an undeniable sense of party and energy and offers few breaths. Here the riffs are legion and the rhythmic is largely put forward ('All Along' or 'Your Kiss'). We find hints of Jimi Hendrix in the beginning of 'Need Some Mo' and especially a groove which never seems to weaken ('Walls Get Closer').
The references to the 60's and 70's are the obvious backbone of this album but with a personality that often lies in the use of contrasts that mix Led Zeppelin (especially in Warren's voice close to Robert Plant) with some progressive breaks a la Rush ('Lead Your Astray' is the perfect incarnation). The other side of the coin is that the album doesn't make any track stand out more than others, giving off a feeling of linearity that doesn't spoil the listening pleasure at all because of the energy it conveys. The band has the good idea to close the record with an eight minutes track ('Non Essential Man') with a slow and worrying progression that allows to finish on a very good impression. This rock funeral oration, which we can easily guess what it refers to, is icy like a good old Black Sabbath.
"Need Some Mo" transpires by all its pores the rock in its pure state, in a cathartic dynamic with the strong desire to be transposed on stage. Twelve tracks that constitute as many sticks of dynamite, explosive and ready to ravage everything in their path. - Official website
