"Somewhere between thrash metal tinged with hardcore and progressive metal, Dead Ficus delivers "All Else Failed" with a surprising but very efficient result."

Founded in 2006, Dead Ficus started their career as a cover band before moving into writing in the early 2010s. "Rise Or Fall" in 2016 was the result. Reflecting the varied repertoire of their covers, the record saw the band make a bold leap from hardcore to heavy metal to progressive. The gamble paid off, with the record allowing the band to make a name for themselves.

We had to be patient to discover the sequel, a "All Else Failed" composed of 10 tracks and presenting a cover in adequacy with its title in a post-apocalyptic spirit. Artistically, the band doesn't change its approach and remains audacious. It mixes the styles with an enormous nerve.

The most adventurous tracks are those in which Dead Ficus dares the most daring mix. 'New Foundation', 'On Thin Ice', 'Shell Of Science' and 'Breath/Suffocate' offer a progressive metal sound in the riffs or in the keyboard mixed with a pure hardcore vocal. To understand these tracks, you have to imagine the meeting between Madball and Iron Maiden coupled with Dream Theater. The result is explosive and it works, Dead Ficus thrives on the progressive hardcore thrash with success.

Besides, Dead Ficus comes closer to the Swedish melodic death sound in vogue at the end of the 90s. 'Reborn Without Fire', 'Empty Generation' and 'Remission' are in this optic with a vocal that evokes In Flames or Soilwork. The result is very effective, the titles find the original spirit of the genre and all that makes move the head.

With "All Else Failed", Dead Ficus signs an interesting album which shakes the stylistic borders with brilliance. It can surprise and even disorientate but the adventure is worth it, the musicians showing themselves particularly at ease in this audacious mix.

SLAEGT: Goddess (2022)
BLACK METAL - Cradle of an epic black metal with heavy metal accents, "The Goddess" confirms the singular identity occupied by Slægt, producer of a material as strange as rough.
JOURNEY: Freedom (2022)
A.O.R. - In spite of an average production, "Freedom" is undoubtedly the best album proposed by Journey since "Frontiers".
