The eclipse lasted eight years, Hellacopters had put an end to its career after a well-made "Head Off". But stories always have a sequel and the Swedish band made a comeback in 2016 at the invitation of the Sweden Rock Festival. And what could have been a simple stunt lasted. The band saw the departure of Kenny Hakansson and had to deal with the passing of Robert Dahlqvist in 2017. The wait for a new album, the first real one since 2005, has been long but it ends with this "Eyes Of Oblivion".

Hellacopters finds its garage rock verve, which gives a warm and stirring result: a good half of the tracks are rock'n'roll orgies carried by Nicke Andersson's hoarse voice. The nervousness released is intense, the freshness is there with direct riffs and piano parts that bring a rock side to the old. 'So Sorry I Could Die' is a nice dive in the time, which takes us in an old smoked bar with a tone oscillating between blues, rock and garage.

The tracks 'Eyes Of Oblivion', 'Tin Foll Soldier' and 'The Pressure's On' have a nice 70's hard rock feeling with good riffs typical of a certain time and a veiled and hoarse vocal that could remind Phil Lynott. The result is pleasant, it emerges from the songs a light side full of carelessness. The choruses are remarkable with a direct and catchy side irresistible. On the solos, Dregen and Andersson enjoy themselves with a nice balance between speed and melody.

The return of the Hellacopters is a delightful success that restores the morale. The band has not lost any of its verve and signs a warm record at the crossroads of garage rock and hard rock.

OTHER REVIEWS
NOVELISTS: Déjà Vu (1ère Partie) (2022)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - Relatively disappointing, "Déjà-Vu: Part One" is a record that blurs the lines and whose songs seem to be made for a band other than Novelists.
INTERPOL: The Other Side Of Make-believe (2022)
ALTERNATIVE ROCK - Unless you are a big fan of depressing mid-tempo compositions, listening to "The Other Side Of Make-Believe" in one go will remain an ordeal for many.
