"Slash feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators offer with "4" their most rootsy and authentic album in a vintage blues rock vein as luminous as melodic."

Between Slash (Guns'n'Roses) and Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), the adventure begins at the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame in 2012 when Axel Rose refuses to perform with the band and the Boston native invites himself (advantageously) to the microphone. This is how for 10 years now Slash feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators have been colonizing our playlists.
If the album first had some setbacks due to the Covid which came to disturb the conception and the recording last year, the result is not so different from the previous productions of the band in terms of compositions since we find with pleasure the ingredients which make this association a success story for a decade, namely a traditional and bluesy (hard) rock with catchy melodies. It is more on the level of the sound that the changes are to be noted with, for example, an 'Actions Speak Louder Than Words' with strong southern blues accents that the fans of ZZ Top or Lynyrd Skynyrd will not disavow, or of the voluntarily dirty sounds which bring a vintage touch in the compositions.
The fans of Myles Kennedy should be delighted because the singer deploys all his talent, from the efficient 'The River Is Rising' in a vein close to Alter Bridge, to the hectic 'Call Off The Dogs'. His so recognizable voice colors each melody and his wide vocal palette brings a pleasant variety. As for Slash, he does Slash. No surprise but in the pure vein of his raw talent. His soli are luminous and full of that little extra that he always knew how to bring to his game and which makes his authenticity. One can reproach him some facilities of composition like the riff of 'Fill My World' very (too) close to that of 'Sweet Child O' Mine'. Special mention to the languorous 'Fall Back To The Earth' which closes the album magnificently with its plaintive riff, its striking vocal and its magnificent arrangements.
All this little world seems to take a lot of pleasure on this "4" and it is well there the essential. And it is visibly communicative because the album transpires this joy of playing rock, moreover in the city considered by many as the true cradle of this music. Of course, "4" doesn't revolutionize the genre and the originality is not its best argument but the listening pleasure is there all along the exercise. Mission accomplished. - Official website
