"Voivod surpasses itself once again and offers a fascinating "Synchro Anarchy", a journey in a universe apart where the technique is put at the service of the songs."

After the release of the excellent EP "The End Of Dormancy", we said that a full live album would be welcome from the Canadians of Voivod. This wish has been fulfilled with the release of "Lost Machine - Live" which allowed us to see that the band was also bluffing live. Hardly time to recover from our emotions that the band is back with a new opus, "Synchro Anarchy". Result of an intense work realized in unusual circumstances because of the pandemic, the album is composed of nine tracks.
It presents a very old-fashioned science-fiction cover taken from the unbridled imagination of "Away" which plunges the listener into the so particular universe of the group. Describing Voivod's music correctly is not easy. It is only necessary to warn the novice that he will penetrate a world where the technique is breathtaking but remains at the service of the songs. This fifteenth album is no exception, in nine tracks and just 47 minutes Voivod displays all the facets of its talent, with a fascinating ability to express this on very short tracks.
With 'Sleeve Off' and 'The World Today' the band manages to say it all with an amazing class. Between technical thrash, jazz and progressive, it gives off an incredible intensity without doing too much. On the other hand, he hits hard by signing tracks that succeed to be technical and catchy. At the center of it, Snake reigns with his robotic vocals inhabited with incredible intensity. 'Synchro Anarchy', 'Mind Clock' and 'Holographic Thinking' are breathtaking while being melodic with an airy and sometimes melancholic facet brought by Snake's vocals.
At the same time, Voivod signs songs that make you dizzy, taking you on a journey to the edge of madness. 'Paranormalium', 'Planet Eaters' and 'Quest For Nothing' are cut in a pure techno thrash. The impression to listen to the soundtrack of the end of the world is total. Everything swirls, progressive breaks, jazz-tinged instrumental parts and furious solos follow each other without respite. Snake is the perfect complement of this madness, he is so frightening that he seems possessed.
With "Synchro Anarchy", Voivod shows itself at the top of its art. Once again, far from the sterile and fleeting fashions, it shows a huge strength for a music that takes to the guts and to the soul as few bands can do it. - Official website
