"I got a sunburn". Richard Cocciante may not know Sun Below, and the reverse is also likely, but rarely have words been so prophetic. For here Sun Below does not shine, it liquefies, sinks to the bottom of the Styx and drags with it the listener's desire to remain impassive.

A stoner trio from a country where the desert is a view of the mind, Sun Below invokes Black Sabbath in the middle of the snow-white expanses of Toronto and melts the listener along with the immaculate blanket that covers the world.

Nine tracks like so many muddy discharges where the bass reigns as the master of ceremony, meandering like a venomous snake with unstoppable rhythmic buzzes ('Green Visions', 'Doom Stick') supported by anvil-like drums ('Twin Worlds') and guitars straddling the entire sonic spectrum, from sickly riffs to impossible staccato and sounds that the surface world couldn't name. The epic journey along this river of hell exceeds the hour despite the relatively small number of tracks as they allow themselves to last up to 18 minutes in order to drive the dark sting deeper into the flesh.

"I don't sleep at night anymore, I make trips on boats that are wrecked". Maybe Richard Cocciante knows Sun Below well after all...

SKALD: Winter Songs (2021)
OTHERS - Well in phase with its subject, "Winter Songs" sounds like a variation full of lightness, favourable to a listening at the corner of the fire.
