Born in 1989 and author of two EPs in the middle of the 90's, Nestor is an old band that disappeared until its reformation in 2017. Its name does not come from the king of Pylos from Greek mythology, but from Captain Haddock's butler, the Swedes being fans of Tintin's adventures. This goes hand in hand with the state of mind displayed by the protagonists in numerous clips scattered across the Web. Obviously, the quintet does not take itself seriously, or even fear the ridiculous - its costumes, gimmicks and scenaristic madness worthy of Benny Hill are there to prove it. The band didn't invent anything, its references jump to the ears and many passages of this "Kids In A Ghost Town" evoke with insistence some songs composed by their idols.

However, it is undeniable that Nestor has a remarkable talent to invoke the spirit of the 80's, to make resurface the past by giving to the listener the feeling that he holds in his hands an album which had been hidden and then forgotten in a treasure chest nestled at the bottom of a cave, giving undeniably a gust of nostalgia.

The first part of the opus is in this domain quite remarkable. 'On The Run' gathers all the qualities that build a hit. Very representative of the spirit that animates the band, it is close to Kiss' 'I've Enough (Into The Fire)' and combines an addictive riff of yesteryear with a melody that is no less. 'Stone Cold Eyes' is a hard FM gem reminiscent of Giant's 'Hold Back The Night' and the catchy 'These Days' is reminiscent of Van Halen's 'Right Now' in a different tempo. 'Perfect 10', whose lyrics make you smile, honors Demi Moore and Sharon Stone, and graces us with a very radio friendly melody. The eponymous track masterfully wins the title of best song of the opus with a solo that Eddie Van Halen would not have denied.

The second part of the work is less thunderous. The fault of too many ballads, including one with Samantha Fox. This presence of one of the sexy icons of the 80's shows how much Nestor worships this period. Despite 'Firesign' and its Judas Priest-like riff that wakes up the crowd but doesn't really catch on as far as melody is concerned, this half of the album disappoints in comparison to its beginnings, even if '1989' (year of the band's birth) also deserves a lot of praise.

"Kids In A Ghost Town" is almost a success. If its second half had been as explosive as the first, it could have been the melodic hard rock album of the year. The next production of this band of happy men will be awaited with impatience.
