Black Hellebore was born from the meeting of Cyrielle Duval (vocals), Anthony Osché (guitar) and Stefan Forté. This formation proposes a first album, "Disorder", whose titles were composed by the leader of Adagio. The music draws its inspiration in an energetic metal with multiple colors. But far from being an umpteenth progressive metal record, the record synthesizes multiple styles, blurs the tracks, showing that the musicians want to fly with their own wings.
The energy of the record is overflowing, as on 'Unchain' which ventures to the limit of thrash, or on 'Open Up Your Mind' which intensifies it with a rumbling voice. This power is a very positive point, especially when it is supported by beautiful melodies. It is the case of 'Mother Earth' which allows Cyrielle to impose her voice. A sweetness is born there with its sonorities. The pieces of bravery are numerous with a six-string which oscillates between phrases in the pure heavy tradition and intimist passages, the influences bursting in multiple iridescent variations. The variety is the central point of the disc, which picks in several forms of metal, in the electro, which proposes points of jazz or discrete orchestrations ('Release Me').
The picture could have been ideal, but some negative points come to tarnish it. First of all, the variety does not allow to label easily the music, then, and especially, the voice of Cyrielle seems sometimes crushed by the production ('My Difference'). Moreover, even if the musicians propose thrash riffs, punctuate their music with jazz passages, intimate piano or acoustic parts and compose beautiful orchestrations, this variety sounds like something already heard.
Black Hellebore offers us with "Disorder" an effective album between thrash, heavy, soft and discreet symphonism. Full of qualities, melodies, power, beautiful guitars and variety, it is maybe not as surprising as it could have been but it's a first try and the story is not over...
