The very popular Whitechapel, a kind of deathcore leader, had destabilized the team with "The Valley", an opaque record, of an absolute violence and darkness. It was thus a disappointment for Music Waves, so much the expectations were big. The Americans come back today with "Kin", a record as surprising by its stripped cover as by its varied music between terror and sensual caress.

"Kin" is above all melody, whether in the introductions ('I Will Find You'), in the crushing passages, the technical riffs or the solitary guitars. 'Lost Boy' unites a phenomenal power and sweet and surprising melodies at the limit of pop. The heaviness inherited from deathcore is still present on 'A Bloodsoaked Symphony' with guitars that pound the tempo and invade the space. 'To The Wolves' offers a choking rhythm, walls of sound, dark ambiences and cavernous vocals. But even in the midst of the furnace of this track, the melody emerges at the bend of a brilliant guitar.

The album is full of varied melodies and racy harmonies. In particular with the very nice chord sequence of 'Anticure' which reminds 'Zombie' of the Cranberries. This haunting song is a success that takes Whitechapel to a playground where they were not expected. The simplicity gives birth to emotion with acoustic introductions and a beautiful song full of class ('History Is Silent'). The voice takes part in this game of shadows and light when it marries hoarse registers or clear variations providing emotion ('Orphan').

"Kin" is a record between power and lightness, between light and darkness, between rage and appeasement, spiced up by very beautiful melodies. As much as the previous album was dark and sometimes monolithic, this one is varied and coherent. It is thus a beautiful success which makes the band leave its straitjacket. No matter its music, whether it is wrapped in softness or brutality, the band is always at the service of the emotion.
